And remember to play the Crossbell games too, Geofront's Zero translation is already done and the Azure one will probably be done by the time you get to it. If you like Cold Steel you'll have to go back and play the other games eventually anyway, and Cold Steel is better when you know what's going on in the other parts of the world and understand the references or returning characters when they show up. People will tell you it's okay to start with Cold Steel but there's literally no point to it. So just enjoy the chill pace of Estelle's humble beginnings for what it is and prepare for liftoff wben you get to the ending, see the twist, and hear the real version of Hoshi no Arika. It's LotR starting in the Shire for 200 pages then hitting the nitro boosters. But guess what man, a roller coaster only gets to do its thing because it climbs up that huge hill at the start. It's a very slow game with fairly low stakes until it picks up at the final chapter. But you also have to understand that the Trails games are a very slow burn, with a slow pacing to build up the world.Īlso when you'll be done with Sky, play the Crossbell games (Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki) before moving to Cold Steel as it has a few events that happen at the same time as Cold Steel and will give you a lot more context for Cold Steel. Idk how old you are and how much time you have on your hands, but I'm personally on my third year of uni and have a lot of assignments to handle, so I really don't have time to "waste" into games that don't grab me so what I've been doing lately, especially for longer RPGs is play 8-10 hours in, and if the characters and/or world don't pull me in enough, I'll drop it and watch a story summary or playthrough on Youtube before moving on to the next game, so I personally would advise you to do that with the Trails games.
Honestly compared to most here, Trails in the Sky is my least favorite saga in the Legend of Heroes franchise, but it's story and characters are definitely essential as the story keeps progressing and evolving in the other parts of the saga (Crossbell and Cold Steel).
